About this event

Clinical Specialty is a solo event for the Secondary and Postsecondary/Collegiate divisions built around one health career of your choosing (it must be a specific health career with at least one clinical skill, and the skill cannot duplicate any skill used in another HOSA event). Round One is a career portfolio of at most 11 pages plus references, uploaded as a single PDF by May 15 and pre-judged: a title page, a career summary, education and credentialing data, a summary of an interview with a practicing professional (not your advisor), a work-based learning form documenting at least eight hours of job shadowing, a learning outcomes summary, and a skill checklist of at least ten steps taken from a verifiable text. Everyone who uploads on time advances to Round Two, a five-minute presentation to judges that must include at least part of a video of you performing the chosen skill on a battery-powered device you bring. You cover the career's responsibilities, training and job outlook, why you chose it, how your strengths fit it and how it fits into the healthcare system. The portfolio is worth 85 points and the presentation 70, for 155 total; ties are broken by the highest-value rating sheet sections. New this year, the presentation shrank to five minutes and an in-person work-based learning form was added.
