About this event
Community Awareness is a team event (2 to 6 members) for the Secondary and Postsecondary/Collegiate divisions. The team picks a physical, mental, environmental or societal health issue of local, state or national interest, researches it, and runs an awareness campaign in its own community between July 1, 2026 and May 15, 2027, usually with local partners and volunteers. Round One is a portfolio of at most 12 pages plus references, uploaded as one PDF by May 15 and pre-judged out of 80 points: a title page with the campaign title and target audience, the activities and timeline, publicity, dated proof that team members presented, the number of people reached, and original items such as brochures, posts or podcasts.
Every team that uploads advances to Round Two, a five-minute presentation to judges with only notecards allowed, covering why the campaign was chosen, the research behind it, community partnerships, goals and activities, evidence of accomplishment, and impact and areas to improve. All members must speak. The presentation is also worth 80 points for a 160-point total, and ties are broken by the highest-value rubric sections.
