Research Poster

Teams of 2 to 4 pose a community health research question, run their own study, build a 48 by 36 inch poster that is pre-judged, display it at ILC, then top teams present it in five minutes.

About this event

Research Poster moved to the Teamwork category this year and is now a team event (2 to 4 members) for the Secondary and Postsecondary/Collegiate divisions. The team poses a health-related research question it can study in its own community, gathers data between July 1, 2026 and May 15, 2027 by surveys, interviews, a scientific study or observation with informed consent, and designs a digital 48 by 36 inch landscape poster with eight parts: title with identifying information, abstract, methods, results, conclusions, references, acknowledgements and two to five images. Round One is the poster uploaded as one PDF by May 15 and pre-judged out of 95 points. At ILC every team pins the printed poster up for a required display time (15-point deduction if missed). The top teams advance to Round Two, a five-minute presentation standing beside the poster that opens with an elevator pitch, complements rather than repeats the poster, and highlights key findings and implications, with all members speaking; it is worth 70 points for a 165-point total. Ties are broken by the highest-value rubric sections, and the top three abstracts in each division may be featured in HOSA's fall e-magazine.
