This event is a written test only. Use AI Practice for it.

About this event

Behavioral Health is a written test for individual competitors in the Secondary and Postsecondary/Collegiate divisions. The questions are drawn from the SAMHSA website, the NAMI website and the Discovering Psychology textbook, and cover how the mind works (perception, learning, memory, motivation), the major behavioral health disorders and their treatments, substance use prevention and recovery, wellness and coping, careers and laws, and how behavioral health fits into the wider health system. There is only one round: 50 multiple-choice items in 60 minutes, taken in the testing center with no notes or calculator. An essay question is answered on the back of the answer sheet and is only read if two competitors tie. Business attire or the official HOSA uniform earns bonus points, and you bring your own photo ID and #2 pencils.

What to expect

60 minutes, 50 questions

You have 60 minutes for 50 questions written from the event's published test plan. Official format: 50-question test, 60 minutes, plus an essay tiebreaker.

Written from the test plan

Questions follow the event's published test plan, section by section, and are written from the listed reference texts. Practice questions here are drawn in the same proportions.

How you advance

How many advance from regionals to states and on to the International Leadership Conference (ILC) depends on your association's rules. Study the official test plan: it lists each section and its share of the test.
