About this event
Health Informatics is a solo written test for the Secondary and Postsecondary/Collegiate divisions, sponsored by AHIMA. Questions are written from two AHIMA Press books, Introduction to Healthcare Informatics and A Practical Approach to Analyzing Healthcare Data. Data analytics is the biggest slice of the test plan, followed by information systems, data governance, privacy and security, and research study design, with smaller sections on history and careers, data integrity, ethics and emerging technology. Expect case studies, clinical trial scenarios and electronic health record excerpts followed by sets of multiple-choice questions about the data, including risk measures and calculations. HOSA provides a basic handheld calculator (no personal calculators). The test is 50 questions in 60 minutes with an essay tiebreaker.

Written from the test plan
Questions follow the event's published test plan, section by section, and are written from the listed reference texts. Practice questions here are drawn in the same proportions.
How you advance
How many advance from regionals to states and on to the International Leadership Conference (ILC) depends on your association's rules. Study the official test plan: it lists each section and its share of the test.
