About this event
Job Seeking Skills is a solo event for the Secondary and Postsecondary/Collegiate divisions, sponsored by CareerSafe. You pick a real health-related position, internship, scholarship or educational opportunity that you are qualified or training for, then prepare a two-page personal statement (plus title page) that tells your story and shows why you fit, and a one-page factual resume. Both are uploaded as one PDF by May 15 and pre-judged out of 105 points, with the resume's content and creativity worth 20 points each. Everyone who uploads advances to Round Two, a five-minute interview with judges; no materials, not even a copy of the resume, may be brought in. The first two questions always ask about the opportunity and the skills you would bring, and the remaining questions are secret. This is one of the few HOSA events where handshakes with judges are allowed. The 80-point interview rubric scores first impression, how well answers volunteer information and relate strengths professionally, confidence and maturity, knowledge of the position, the closing, diction and eye contact, for a 185-point total. Ties are broken by the highest-value rubric sections.
