About this event

Diversify the Blood Donor Pool Challenge (renamed this year) is a team video event (2 to 6 members) for the Secondary and Postsecondary/Collegiate divisions, sponsored by the American Red Cross and judged only at ILC. Teams study Red Cross material on sickle cell disease and the need for Black donors, and may also reach out to Latino and Hispanic, youth, LGBTQIA+ and Asian and Pacific Islander communities. The video runs from 60 seconds to three minutes, explains why someone should donate blood, and follows one of three styles: a social-media style hype video, a donor's journey, or a patient story (which needs a signed subject release). Music and logos require written permission documented on the copyright form. One member uploads the video, with the copyright and release forms when needed, by May 15. The Red Cross reviews all entries from both divisions together and awards scholarships of $1,000, $750 and $250 to the top three teams, announced at an ILC recognition session. No rating sheet is published.
